“Article 222-33-2-2” and “Frères de douleur”
Initiated within the children’s social care home Jean Bosco of Apprentis d’Auteuil in Le Havre (located in Normandy), the two film projects, Article 222-33-2-2* and Frères de douleur involved 15 young people with the support of Charles d’Annoux and Pierre Quevaine from the Holyframe Productions company.
Project supported by the Fondation Foujita and the Pôle Images de Normandie.
* The title Article 222-33-2-2 refers to the article of the French penal code which deals with moral harassment.
DEMOCRATIZE ACCESS TO ARTISTIC PRACTICES
Noting that cultural spaces were less involved than other themes, because they were perceived as having lower priority, the facility’s teams wanted to develop artistic practices for young people and encourage their participation in cultural events.
The short-film creation workshops, set up in 2023, are open to all young people in the children’s home on a voluntary basis, and require no prerequisites other than a commitment for the duration of the project.

ART, A TOOL FOR RAISING AWARENESS
As the sessions progressed, the participants discovered the world of cinema. They were involved in every stage of the process: choosing the themes (school bullying for Article 222-33-2-2 and child abuse for Frères de douleur), writing the scripts, thinking about the staging, choosing the locations, casting the roles, shooting… right up to the screenings of the short films during the two post-screening discussions at the cultural center La Forge in Harfleur (located in Normandy) in front of a large audience, including their families.
The aim was to create an environment conducive to the development of imagination and creativity, to learn to work in a group, to accept the ideas of others and to build a collective project. In addition, these two projects encouraged young people to get involved by drawing on their sensitivities as well as highlighting the issues that the young people involved may have been confronted with. During the post-screening discussions, an essential stage in the project’s restitution, the young people were able to express their feelings about the creative project itself, and perhaps even go further in raising the audience’s awareness of the issues addressed. And it was with great pride that they received the audience’s impressed reactions !
