“Mothers of the world ”: a photo workshop for mothers and children
Located in Chartres, the social residence Le Bercail offers personalized support to mothers in difficulty with their children. The photo workshop organized by the establishment set itself the challenge of using photography to enhance the mother-child relationship, and to work on the theme of parenthood. Aimed at pregnant women and/or women with children, the project is based on teaching photographic techniques by professionals, through theoretical and practical workshops in the studio, as well as various cultural visits.
In this workshop, photography promotes a more positive, caring self-image. It allows us to immortalize special moments between mothers and children, and to capture the complicity, beauty and pride that stem from this bond. In addition to developing technical skills, the project also encourages creativity and affirms the children’s artistic abilities, all of which are missions supported by the Fondation Foujita.
The project culminated in the “ Mothers of the World ” exhibition, showcasing all the photographic work accomplished during the workshops.
One of the specialist educators attest that:
“I discovered women and children who were happy, fulfilled and filled with emotion at the outcome of their work. The daily lives of these families are often filled with sadness, melancholy and few moments of pleasure, so their joy allows me to say that this is a great success!”
Then, in small groups, they searched for public domain images related to their history curriculum, were introduced to editing tools and began assembling and reappropriating these images:
- Create new meanings for these images by linking them to other images,
- Provoke encounters between these silent images and sounds, voices, music and commentary from other sources,
- Find a guiding idea for all these collages, a meaning for the film.
