“Art on the Plate”
This photo project, imagined by the educational team, aims to create a synergy between art and gastronomy among the 11th and 12th grades in vocational catering & Commercialisation and services students at theSainte-Thérèse hotel management school of Apprentis d’Auteuil in Paris (16th arrondissement), with photographer Laurence Godart.
Project supported by the Fondation Foujita.
In concrete terms, this project enables young people to transpose a graphic or literary work they have chosen – from a selection ranging from classic to modern to street art – into a culinary creation. It’s an opportunity for them to express themselves and give free rein to their sensibilities. Motivation and commitment were key priorities for the youngsters, so this year one group focused on games (cards, video, etc.).
Dressing a plate like creating a work of art
In this project, students are introduced to a number of Bauhaus aesthetic notions – colors, materials, textures and compositions – which enable them to work on their ability to create an artistic plate or cocktail. It’s a rich experience that reinforces professional skills and knowledge through a unique and ambitious hands-on experience!
This 2-year course leads to an individual creation that is part of a collective project, and is rewarded by an exam mark for the baccalaureate. This workshop reflects a strong pedagogical ambition to use art to give concrete expression to what has been learned, and to provide young people with assets that they can integrate and leverage in their professional lives.
Personal and professional enrichment
In addition to opening up the world of culture and the arts, the program focuses on key areas such as developing creativity, raising awareness of one’s own knowledge and talents, andenriching professional skills.
